Youth Commission
HYC Background
  • The Hampton Youth Commission (HYC) is a City Council appointed board.
  • The HYC continues a nearly 20 year legacy of youth civic engagement and leadership development in Hampton city government. 
  • Commissioners able to affect city policy in the areas of Youth Leadership, Civic Preparedness, Youth Activities, and encouraging our Young Adult Community.  
  • The HYC meets on three Mondays per month from 6-7:30p from September through May.

First (1st) Monday of each month (does not meet in July or August)

The commission is comprised of 20-30 high school teens from the City of Hampton.  View a list of members

Projects

How to Apply 
Applications are accepted each spring for the Youth Commission.  Download application now or you can email for more information.

  • Interested students should download and complete the application and bring it with them to the HYC Interviews on April 24 from 6p to 7pm in the 5th Floor Conference Room of City Hall (22 Lincoln Street).
  • We are seeking a diverse group of students that have an interest in making a difference in their community through leadership, advisory, outreach roles.
  • First preference will be given to students who are rising 9th through 11th graders.
  • Applicants will be notified in April of their invitation to join the HYC and the HYC Induction Ceremony will be held in June.
